Animal Farm is brilliant, but 1984 is so layered, and can really open the reader's eyes as to the many ways those in power can retain their power. The party's use of language to control thought, and their denying the past can and will eventually confuse people as to the realities of history.

Animal farm is more than anything a criticism of authoritarianism and more specifically a criticism of Joseph Stalin. In no way does the book criticize the ideas of socialism, In fact Orwell himself was a socialist and the novel serves as a warning of how authoritarianism can arise from a socialist revolution.

I just finished Animal farm (book) and came here just to ask, are the films worth my time. Does anyone now how hard to find they are? I have seen the 1950s version in some places so i guess that is the easier to find version. Also i live in the pal region if that helps. Are there any good films that are inspired by Animal farm?

If you enjoy a laugh, go for it. If you want to learn something valuable, go read actual communist books made by communist thinkers
