Former Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova needed three sets to subdue Chinese qualifier Wang Xinyu on Sunday and win the Berlin Open title, completing an improbable run to her first trophy since her London triumph two years ago.

Wang reached her first grass-court final by beating Liudmila Samsonova 6-4, 6-1 in the semifinal to meet the 2023 Wimbledon Open champion Vondrousova in the final. The Czech defeated world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka to advance to the final.
