Daytona 500 pole-winner Chase Briscoe was dealt a major penalty Wednesday when NASCAR said Joe Gibbs Racing had a modified spoiler on the No. 19 Toyota in time trials.

The Joe Gibbs Racing No. 19 team was levied an L2-level penalty after Daytona. Team fined and hit with points penalty. Briscoe also dealt points penalty.

As a result of his team's misdeeds, Briscoe and Joe Gibbs Racing were issued matching 100-point driver and owner deductions. JGR was fined an additional $100,000, while Briscoe's crew chief, James Small, was banned four races for the offense. On Wednesday, JGR announced its intention to appeal the punishment.
