Austin Slater is heading to the New York Yankees, giving them another right-handed bat they can plug into a part-time role down the stretch. The active Yankees acquired the veteran outfielder from the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday in exchange for minor league pitching prospect Gage Ziehl.

Even after acquiring right-handed infielder Amed Rosario, the Yankees were still searching for a RHH outfielder to bolster their depth.

Arriving from Chicago, Slater was placed on the Yankees' active roster about an hour before Wednesday night's game against the Tampa Bay Rays, with lefty-hitting catcher-first baseman J.C. Escarra optioned to Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
