“Angels Landing is one of the most iconic destinations in Zion National Park and issuing permits will make going there fair for everyone.” Superintendent Jeff Bradybaugh said in a press release.
Thirteen hikers have fallen and died from Angels Landing, or the trail to it, since 2000, according to records compiled by FOX 13. The tally includes two Utah men who have died in the last month.
Angels Landing is one of the most sought-after destinations and more than 300,000 people hiked it in 2019, according to park officials.
Seasonal permits already have been awarded through Aug. 31. The next seasonal lottery to hike Angels Landing between Sept. 1 and Nov. 30 will be open for applications starting on July 1.
