California Tinder users must now complete facial recognition verification through its Face Check feature to combat fraud and verify identities.

Double Date, as the feature is called, is the refined version of the failed 2016 product Tinder Social, which was discontinued in 2017 over privacy concerns and user confusion about its purpose.

The feature is already in use in Colombia and Canada, and California will be its first U.S. pilot market. The stored facial data is deleted once a user deletes their profile, Tinder claims.
