GOP Sen. Tom Cotton defended the language he used in his WSJ op-ed calling for President Trump to send in the troops to Los Angeles to help with the anti-ICE riots.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has temporarily blocked a federal judge’s order that directed President Donald Trump to return control of National Guard troops to California after he deployed them there following protests in Los Angeles over immigration raids.

In a statement responding to Saturday protests, Mayor Keith Wilson pledged that Portland police will uphold the law in the city, but will “not be used as agents of ICE.”

Judge Charles Breyer ordered the administration to return control of the National Guard to the California governor, but an appeals court stayed the extraordinary decision Thursday night.
