The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has identified the man who opened fire at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as 30-year-old Patrick Joseph White of Kennesaw, Georgia.

A police officer died Friday in an attack that prompted a massive law enforcement response to one of the nation’s most prominent public health institutions.

A police officer has died from injuries sustained while responding to a shooting outside the headquarters of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which is near Emory University. The Atlanta police department said the incident, which took place on Friday, involved a "single shooter" who is now dead.
