New York City Mayor Eric Adams said on Monday there was an "active shooter" investigation underway in central Manhattan, while the FBI added it was also providing support at what it called an active crime scene.

At least one police officer and at least one civilian has been shot at the incident inside of a building on Park Avenue in New York City as a result of an active shooter incident, two senior NYC officials say.

Officials said the gunman fatally shot himself after his attack, which set off a chaotic scene that rippled out into the heart of Manhattan during rush hour.
