F1 experts have predicted a “feisty” Melbourne Grand Prix as McLaren teammates Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri battle each other to strike the first blow in the race to be world champion.

Lando Norris has taken pole position in the first qualifying session of the 2025 Formula 1 season. The McLaren star will start Sunday's race on the front row alongside teammate Oscar Piastri, who was less than a tenth of a second behind in the timings.

Piastri, who won two races last year, flew around his home Albert Park circuit on soft tyres in an eye-catching one minute 15.921 seconds.
