New Amtrak Acela trains launched along the Northeast Corridor Thursday, servicing cities from Boston to Washington, D.C.

( NewsNation) — Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy joined Amtrak President Roger Harris in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday for the launch of the company’s new high-speed NextGen Acela train. The inaugural ride from D.C. to New York City comes after multiple setbacks and years of delays. The trains were initially scheduled to debut in 2022.

Amtrak’s NextGen Acela is considered a “premium ride” for travelers, offering free high-speed Wi-Fi, individual USB ports, power outlets and reading lights. Fares for one-way business class service between Washington and New York on Friday, Aug. 29, ran $498 per traveler, according to Amtrak’s booking website.
