Amtrak has launched a new 'Nextgen Acela' service on the Northeast Corridor, bringing trains that hit up to 160 mph to commuters along the east coast.

NextGen Acela train service offers premium travel with free Wi-Fi, USB ports and 27% more seats on the Washington-New York-Boston corridor.

The new Acela trains were built in the U.S. at Alstom's Hornell, New York facility and include components from 180 suppliers in 29 states.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced the takeover Wednesday alongside Amtrak President Roger Harris at Washington’s main transportation hub during the launch of an updated version of the rail service’s Acela train. The federal government owns Union Station, which is near the Capitol.

Not only is it beautiful, but its architecture, history, and elegance have made it one of America's historic landmarks.

The official said "we need to address the cleanliness, the crime, the safety, and security of the station for the rail workers, for the passengers, because the people of Boston deserve that."

The Atlanta Regional Commission and the City of Atlanta have launched a study to find a new location for the Atlanta Amtrak Station, which officials say is currently too small and not ADA-compliant.

The Department of Transportation says it will be "reclaiming management" of the transportation hub, which it has owned since the 1980s. D.C.'s mayor says that would be an "amazing initiative."
