Amtrak’s long-awaited NextGen Acela trains debut this week with faster top speeds, upgraded seating, improved accessibility and modern amenities.
East Coast travel may get a little quicker. Amtrak debuted a faster new train called "NextGen Acela" Thursday that will be able to hit a top speed of 160mph. Amtrak's original high-speed Acela trains have a top speed of 150 mph.
NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Amtrak is set to roll out its long-awaited Mardi Gras Service, a twice-daily passenger train connecting Mobile (Ala.) to New Orleans, with stops along the Mississippi Gulf Coast, beginning Monday (Aug. 18). Trains will depart Mobile at 6:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., arriving in New Orleans at 10:30 a.m. and 8:13 p.m., respectively.
A group of about 60 seniors participated in the special day trip organized by Harrison County Senior Services.
Amtrak's "NextGen Acela" trains are scheduled to debut from Boston to Washington, D.C., on Aug. 28, including Wilmington.
