The proposed bear hunt in 2025 became a reality today. Hundreds of Floridians showed up at the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s quarterly meeting in Havana, Florida on Wednesday, both for and against the hunt.

The first black bear hunt in Florida in a decade will take place in December under a rule adopted Wednesday by state wildlife officials.

State wildlife officials say a regulated hunt is needed to manage the bear population. Opponents say the new rules will lead to trophy hunting.
