OpenAI started rolling out GPT-5 to ChatGPT shortly after the AI system’s introduction last week. As part of the update, the company removed several of the chatbot service’s earlier LLMs. The move reportedly drew criticism from thousands of users, some of whom complained that GPT-5 provides lower output quality than its predecessor.
For now, the changes should help placate users who felt frustrated by the sudden shift to GPT-5 and deprecation of OpenAI's older LLMs.
According to Apple, OpenAI's GPT-5 is coming to Apple Intelligence as part of its ChatGPT integration, but not until iOS 26 rolls out this fall.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has admitted that the launch of GPT-5, the company’s most advanced AI model to date, did not unfold as planned. Speaking to reporters, Altman acknowledged the wave of criticism that followed the rollout and explained what the company is doing to regain user trust.
GPT-5 is OpenAI’s latest, and now flagship, AI model. This new version is now the default system for a range of AI chatbots. OpenAI says GPT-5 is much more intelligent that the previous GPT-4 mode, with major improvements in complex front-end generation.
After releasing GPT-5 and removing the option for GPT-4o, OpenAI restored access to its older model after a deluge of unhappy user comments.
As OpenAI’s ChatGPT makes AI mainstream, the company has introduced its new GPT-5 model, which it claims offers expert-level results.
