In a statement sent to news outlets Sunday, the NYPD said an image it circulated on social media of Camden Lee, a 15-year-old Brooklyn resident, “mistakenly stated that he was wanted for the fatal shooting” at the West Indian American Day Parade in September.

The NYPD has issued an apology to a Brooklyn teenager whom they falsely identified as a suspect in a West Indian Day Parade shooting last year that killed one and wounded four. However, the apology came with a caveat.

After the NYPD stated that 15-year-old Camden Lee was a person of interest in a mass shooting, it became aware that he was no longer a suspect in the case. Instead of informing the press and public, the NYPD knowingly withheld the information despite pleas from the Lee family.
